Choosing Counsellor Script

Hello,

I'm Jayne Green (B.Ed; M.Ed) the founder of JMG Changes Lives!

I always appreciate parents/clients asking me questions about my qualifications, experience and memberships, because counselling is not regulated in Australia and it should be. For example, if someone has a six-week certificate there is no law that stops them from calling themselves a counsellor.  So how do you know you are choosing a qualified counsellor for you or your child, whom you can trust with your mental and physical well-being?

Choosing a professionally qualified counsellor is an important decision when seeking support for yourself or your loved ones. It is crucial to select someone who has the necessary qualifications, experience, and memberships with regulatory bodies in Australia. Let me provide you with information about my personal qualifications and how to make an informed choice.

I am Jayne Green (B.Ed; M.Ed) - AKA Dale, the founder of JMG Changes Lives. With over 45 years of experience working with adults and children, I am a Master's Degree qualified state school teacher registered with the Department of Education in Queensland.

Additionally, I hold a Master's Degree in Education (Teaching) and a Master's Degree as a Career and Guidance Counsellor from QUT.

As a certified psychoeducation therapist, I have successfully applied a holistic, cognitive-behavioural therapeutic approach to help individuals heal from anxiety, panic, and other life challenges.

When choosing a counsellor, it is vital to ensure they are a member of a regulatory body in Australia. For instance, I am a proud member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and the Queensland Guidance Counselling Association (QGCA). These memberships reflect my commitment to professional standards, ethics, and ongoing professional development.

Regulatory bodies like the ACA and APA (Australian Psychologists Association) play a crucial role in ensuring practitioners adhere to ethical guidelines and maintain their competence through supervision and continuous education. To become a paid member of these professional bodies, therapists like myself undergo supervision by qualified supervision counsellors and accumulate client counselling hours. This process allows us to progress from provisional to full professional membership.

Additionally, we commit to engaging in regular professional development to stay updated with the latest theories, therapies, and practices. This dedication ensures that we provide the highest standard of care and remain knowledgeable about advancements in the field.

Confidentiality, ethical conduct, and practice are paramount when working with clients. Regulatory bodies enforce strict codes and guidelines to protect the well-being and privacy of individuals seeking counselling. By adhering to these principles, qualified counsellors maintain trust and provide a safe and supportive environment for their clients.

When considering a counsellor, it is important to review their qualifications, experience, and memberships. Look for individuals who have relevant degrees, specialised training, and certifications in their area of expertise. Membership in reputable professional associations, such as the ACA, ensures that the counsellor meets rigorous standards and follows ethical guidelines.

In summary, selecting a professionally qualified counsellor who holds memberships with regulatory bodies in Australia is crucial for receiving effective and ethical counselling services. As a highly qualified and experienced counsellor, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help individuals navigate their challenges and achieve positive change in their lives. I am dedicated to providing compassionate support and facilitating healing journeys for my clients.  If you have any further questions or would like to discuss your specific needs, please feel free to reach out. I am here to assist you in making an informed decision about your counselling journey.
